"The Perfect Butt" TM Profile Scriber from the people at M-Power have another tool we found quite ingenious. Their Profile Scriber is perfect for copying the contours of walls, mantles, kitchen tops or any where you have uneven profiles and cannot get the material under the edge.

We tried it on a fireplace for installing a Mantle, an uneven wall, and even our slightly curved work bench surface and it preformed great. The 5 different sizes of tracing wheels allow you to trace various sizes of contours from 3 1/3 down to 1"with accuracy and ease of use. One possible downfall would be if you were trying to copy a curvatures smaller then 1 inches, then the profile scriber won't follow those. But this seems a small problem as none of the contours we could find were smaller diameter then an inch. At just around $24 it's a fair price if you need to install wood or laminate floors, kitchen counters or any number of jobs."The Perfect Butt" can be purchased through their web site
