Woodworker: Daniel Carter

Location: Clovis California

On October 11th, 2001 we were blessed with the birth of our first child. Emily Ryelle Carter. In preparation of her arrival I bought plans for this cradle and built it in our woodshop. Also we redecorated her bedroom, painting, wallpapering and creating a wall mural. All in all these were some very rewarding projects. And the first time I got to see my new daughter sleeping in the cradle I built for her, was heartwarming to say the least. The cradle is built from solid Maple. Turned posts suspend it for smooth rocking. I purchased the spindles online from a company in canada called Stockade. They have some great stuff, check it out.

The Room redesign was quite a project. We started by painting the room wall and ceiling with a soft tan that matched the wallpaper border. Next we taped off the stripes and painted the yellow stripes all around the room. Next step was to paste the wallpaper border around the room. To add definition to the border and give it a framed look, I placed some half round molding along the top and bottom edges. Painted white to make it stand out, this really gave it a finished look. The room has a peaked ceiling up to 12' and to fill up that largegap of whitespace, we painted a mural as well repeating the stars randomly around the rest of the walls. The star and moon designs are copied from the wallpaper, and really tie the whole design together. With the gracious help of Lance's Brother-in-law Greg, the detail painting came out wonderfully.
